Hi, I'm Malthe

I'm driven by the challenge of applying AI models to real-world projects

In my free time I enjoy running

Iterative Structured Knowledge Distillation: Optimizing Language Models Through Layer-by-Layer Distillation
Malthe Have Musaeus & Rob van der Goot
COLING 2025
I got my bachelor's thesis published at an international conference!
Alongside my supervisor, Professor Rob van der Goot, I developed a novel method for optimizing transformer-based neural networks. The method, called Iterative Structured Knowledge Distillation (ISKD), replaces large transformer blocks with smaller counterparts for computational efficiency. The paper was accepted at The 31st International Conference on Computational Linguistics (COLING 2025).

Story driven Mobile Apps
I recently released two mobile apps with generative AI capabilities. Choice Saga is a story driven game where you make choices that affect the story. Grow Tales allows parents to generate personalized bedtime stories for their children.
Other Projects

"Musearch" - Customer support search engine
I spent almost my entire second semester (sorry professors!) building an AI semantic search engine for LaserTryk.dk's customer support team - the biggest printing company in Scandinavia. Using NLP techniques before generative AI was cool, this project got me hooked on the practical applications of AI.

KPMG Responsible AI hackathon winner
During university I participated in and won a hackathon hosted by KPMG. The task was to develop an AI solution, that would help the African startup, Tiny Totos, better facilitate communication with their customers.

Or rather very digitally nomadding. I take this time to work on my research interests while scaling my mobile apps and 3PL.

Writing retreat
Calafell, Catalonia, Spain
I had completed courses ahead of time and decided to go on a writing retreat in Spain where I worked on my bachelor's thesis. Loved every bit of life, the food, the people, the weather, the culture, and the work. I would wake up, walk down to the Mediterranean Sea, order a "Café con leche" and start writing until it was time for siesta

University of New South Wales - Exchange Student
Sydney, NSW, Australia
Studied at the University of New South Wales (UNSW). At the time of my visit, UNSW was ranked as the worlds 19th-best university by the QS World University Rankings. I chose to study at UNSW to partake in the postgraduate course "Advanced Machine Learning" which directly aligns with my research interests.

IT University of Copenhagen, Bachelor of Science in Data Science
Copenhagen, Denmark
Completed Bachelor's degree in Data Science at IT University of Copenhagen. The program focused on computer programming, artificial intelligence, and machine learning aligning with my academic interests and passions. The curriculum emphasized group projects and hands-on learning. My thesis, supervised by Professor Rob van der Goot, was about optimizing transformer based neural networks by combining concepts from distillation and pruning. Specifically I replaced large transformer blocks with smaller counterparts for computational efficiency.

Aarhus Business College, HHX
Aarhus, Denmark
My line of study was economics and mathematics and my final grade average was 11.6 on the Danish 12-point grading scale (4.0 GPA.)
2018 - 2021Tutzing Gymnasium
Tutzing, Germany
My family and I lived in Germany while I was attending 10th grade in a German high school. During the stay, I made local friends and learned German. This was the third time I went to a foreign school, as I have previously lived in the United States as well.
